On April 7 hundreds of people packed the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford, Conn., for the premiere of the sneaker documentary, "Just for Kicks."Overseen by Executive Producer Thierry Dahere, Just for Kicks gives us an insight into the affect the sneaker game has had on urban culture. "When I saw how much of an impact sneakers had on urban culture, I felt it had to be documented and shared with the world," says Dahere. He was right on. Being the sneakerheads we are, Just for Kicks brought us back to when we were kids, seeing the evolution of the sneakers and personalities we came up with. The filming of this documentary began in early 2003 with Dahere filming a small three-minute pilot and pushing it to a few production companies. "After getting a few companies interested we ran full production in 2004," he says. Filmed in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, and London, the film shows you how the sneaker culture has spread throughout the world... The documentary takes us on a journey back into the past and gives us a look into the future. From the origin of adidas shell toes through Mars Blackman and Air Jordan, to the present retro explosion, Just for Kicks covers it all. The film also shows us the business side of the sneaker game. Beginning in the early 1980's, many of our favorite athletes and musicians took on shoe sponsors. Who can forget Run-DMC rocking adidas? The documentary gives you the actual footage of the group negotiating their first endorsement deal with the company. There are currently two versions of Just for Kicks hitting the market. In conjunction with Image Entertainment, Dahere and company have released a 66-minute version which is currently running on Spike TV, and an 82-minute version will be released on DVD on June 6.
