If you were at ‘55th last night, you were a part of history. 2K Sports conducted the first outdoor motion capture session for the highly anticipated NBA 2K8 video game. Junkies like me already know that they make the best basketball simulation game on the market. If you’re not familiar with the title then I highly suggest you pick it up when it drops this fall.
If being apart of history wasn’t enough, spectators got to see pros Gerald Wallace (Charlotte Bobcats), Andre Iguodala (Philadelphia 76ers), Rudy Gay (Memphis Grizzlies), and the game’s cover man Chris Paul (New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets) play against each other as they served as the motion capture models...
The park was transformed into a scene out of “The Running Man.†(All y’all born after ‘84 probably don’t know what I’m talking about.) Half of the court was enclosed by lights on scaffolds and electrical cords. The players even had on special suits that transformed their real life movements into computer simulations.
The players acted out a series of moves necessary for the game, and then they got to freestyle a little. If you already didn’t know Iguodala, Gay, and Wallace have rocket hops. I was surprised to see Chris Paul get up there, but as expected his handles are SERIOUS.
To liven up the crowd E.B.C. commentator Hannibal and Bounce’s own Bobbito did the play by play alongside the dj who spun straight bangers. The duo handed out names like “Courageous†Chris Paul and Andre “Extra Gravy Sauce†Iguodala.
It’s no coincidence that Bob blessed the mic last night–He’s actually in 2K8! He hosts one of the new features in the game that we really can’t speak on…just know I went to a preview before coming up to the park, and its like that!
The night ended with media getting to holla at the players. Naomi got her journalism stripes as she conducted interviews.
A nice crowd came out to support. Toronto Raptors star Chris Bosh even rolled to partake in the festivities.
Start saving up now because this game is going to fly right off the shelves. I know I have my $49.99 set aside. Now I have to figure out how to get one of those cats on my E.B.C. squad!
