ElevationMag.com - Our big three helped us get our first victory of the 2007 EBC year. We made two key acquisitions over the winter in bringing in Antawan "Antifreeze" Dobie and Kenyatta "Yatta" Brown. The two additions to our team complements our already star Chud "Lights Out" Gray.
We jumped right out the gate to a 15-3 lead in the first quarter to a strong team in Xmen, who play in every league in the city together. Chud and Dobie were picking their shots up and down the court, and they fed Yatta every time they say him on the box. We had that team back pedaling the whole first half. Then Xmen went on 14-4 run and got within three. As I indicated all last year the three things you must do to when in Rucker Park is transition defense, rebounding and foul shots. We went away from doing those things, so I had to regroup and get a spark from my bench. I inserted newly acquired EBC Veteran Rosco "The Defender" Briggers. He gave us the lift we needed, scoring 12 points to preserve our lead and the win.
I am happy with the win, but again I cannot emphasize more getting back on defense and maintaining big leads. I don't want to make a habit of blowing big leads because it can come back to haunt us. We can't lose the lead against Team Rocstar who we play on Monday June 25, at 8:00 on ESPN. They have Kenny Sattifield and Denver Nuggets Star Carmelo Anthony. Unfortunately Denver Nuggets guard JR Smith will not play due to injuries sustained in a recent car accident. After getting a verbal commitment from Suns guard Raja Bell I will be ready for Carmelo.
