Streetball Wizard: "Pat Da Roc" PDF Print E-mail

[ElevationMag.com] Recently, ElevationMag had the chance to check in on “Pat Da Roc” Robinson, the 23 year old streetball wizard from around the world and Prince Frederick, Maryland. For all you streetball, SBA, and And1 fans out there, you know what I mean when I say ‘wizard’, for all you new to the street, look up ‘wizard’ , ‘street ballers’ or ‘crazy trickster’ in the Wikipedia dictionary and you might see Pat’s picture above the definition.

We asked Pat to give us a little background, and to tell us some feelings about his life and career. Pat laid it out as only he can, to the point but with a lot of jazz. On his trip to the street he puts it to us like this: “Born and raised in Prince Frederick, Maryland…5-9 as a senior…went to University of Cincinnati, walked on twice, got cut twice…went to a streetball game…” And the rest is history in the making...

Pat says when that ball rolled up to him in the streets of Cincinnati, he knew what to do with it – “kicked it over my shoulder and shot it.” Just like that. At that moment a spark went off and Pat, and the guys on the court knew he had ‘it’ going on. “Hey, do that again.” Is what Pat heard that day for the first many times to come. Needless to say, he did it again, and again and threw in some crazy hot dribble’n to round it off. The Main Event got his number, called him the next day and he was out on the Tour. “Ever since then, streetball has been my job.”

The next year Pat dropped out of college, and made a run for the Harlem Globetrotters hoping to ply those insane ball skills with the original wizards of the court. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you look at things, Pat got released. That and college behind him, he joined the Street Ball Association and hit the world tour scene.

On the tour he learned to spice it up, and grew to 6-3 and got to see the world. Traveling through Asia, Africa, and the Bahamas, Pat continued to perfect his ball handling skills with the support of streetball vets like ‘Baby Shaq’, ‘Silk’ and ‘Prime Objective’. “These guys taught me a lot”, Pat says. And I bet Pat ‘Da Roc’ taught them some tricks too.

Pat hit the big time with the SBA and got on the And1 winter tour, tapes and TV. Pat is always on the move. After a couple stints with And1 and a couple trips home Pat Da Roc looks like he is defining himself by himself. Yeah, as he puts it, he “got sent home” and “got sent home again…but this is just the beginning…you haven’t seen the last of Pat Da Roc.” And you know what, I believe him. Because as he puts it to all of us “basketball is my job” and he’s damn good at it.

Although I hope you all got to know Pat a little better today, he has just release a new DVD entitled “Who is Pat Da Roc?” that I hope you all check out to find out more about Pat “Da Roc” Robinson. Pat is looking forward to doing some, TV, commercials and keeping the world entertained with the handling that only Pat can do. Like he said, “this is just the beginning.”
