ESPN City Slam Semifinals PDF Print E-mail

Sunday, 18 June 2006
ImageIntersport, a leading independent producer of sports programming in the United States, has announced the pairings for the Semifinals of its annual ESPN City Slam competition. The Semifinals and Championship will be held this weekend on North Ave beach in Chicago and will be taped for a series of airdates on ESPN.

The City Slam will feature 16 dunkers who advanced from a field of 48 in the opening round of competition, held earlier this year in Panama City, Florida. Headlined by 2005 City Slam Champion Chris Lowery, a.k.a. "Skywalker," the 2006 field is stronger and more competitive than ever before. (See full list below) Intersport's City Slam competition is an annual celebration of the exclamation point of street basketball and the game's ultimate in-your-face statement; the slam dunk. But unlike some professional competitions that have become more about pomp than circumstance, the City Slam remains steeped in the traditions of bare-knuckle street ball...

And while it is, without question, an amateur competition and given to unscripted spontaneity, the City Slam also carries of level of professionalism, due in large part to such well-respected sponsors as Fruit of the Loom, Gatorade, Reebok, Taco Bell and AbsolutePoker.net. That level of professionalism will also get ratcheted up by the roster of judges, which this year will include such legendary stars as former NBA Slam Dunk champions Spud Webb and Kenny "Sky" Walker, and current Cleveland Cavaliers point guard, Damon Jones.

Another former NBA Slam Dunk champion, Dee Brown, who now serves as a basketball analyst for ESPN, will host ESPN's City Slam coverage.

The City Slam finals will air throughout the summer on ESPN and ESPN2. For the air schedule and more information, including video highlights, visit cityslamtv.com.
