NYC has been buzzing this weekend with the rumor of a Homicide vs. AButta 1-on-1 challenge for $10K cash. Following a verbal altercation this past week up at EBC, Homicide responded to AButta’s challenge of a winner take all game for $5k. Homicide went a step further and said make it $10K. Then he put word out that he would be up at EBC on Sunday at 4pm to handle business. I will let the video explain the rest….

Coaches shouted at players to get back on defense. Teammates engaged in a tightly contested scrimmage. The losing team had to run sprints. It could have been the scene at any high school, college or NBA gym, but this was no ordinary sight. That’s because it took place on the blacktop of a parking lot and featured players on the AND 1 streetball team.
“We’re competing,†Troy “Escalade†Jackson said. “I played with the Harlem Globetrotters, and that was like a play. It was the same script night in and night out. Out here, it’s freelance. The difference here is it’s entertainment with no rehearsals.â€
Jackson and the rest of the AND 1 All-Stars will showcase their talents today at 3 p.m. (gates open at 2) against a team of local players outside the Bayside Expo Center. Tickets are $20. This is the second stop on AND 1’s 10-city Mix Tape Tour...
One of the real joys of outdoor ball was the “cla-clack†sound of a ball hitting a metal perforated backboard. Full metal and half-moon white backboards gave you that “boom†sound when you slapped backboard hard on your man when u drove for a lay-up. Those sounds are quickly coming to an end as glass has taken over at all the NYC major tournaments. West 4th Street, one of the oldest in the city, got glass for 2007 and now the question is: Is glass better than metal? Let us know the next time you run pick-up or tournament ball at West 4th or any of the other courts which one is better.
ElevationMag.com - Our big three helped us get our first victory of the 2007 EBC year. We made two key acquisitions over the winter in bringing in Antawan "Antifreeze" Dobie and Kenyatta "Yatta" Brown. The two additions to our team complements our already star Chud "Lights Out" Gray.
We jumped right out the gate to a 15-3 lead in the first quarter to a strong team in Xmen, who play in every league in the city together. Chud and Dobie were picking their shots up and down the court, and they fed Yatta every time they say him on the box. We had that team back pedaling the whole first half. Then Xmen went on 14-4 run and got within three. As I indicated all last year the three things you must do to when in Rucker Park is transition defense, rebounding and foul shots. We went away from doing those things, so I had to regroup and get a spark from my bench. I inserted newly acquired EBC Veteran Rosco "The Defender" Briggers. He gave us the lift we needed, scoring 12 points to preserve our lead and the win.
I am happy with the win, but again I cannot emphasize more getting back on defense and maintaining big leads. I don't want to make a habit of blowing big leads because it can come back to haunt us. We can't lose the lead against Team Rocstar who we play on Monday June 25, at 8:00 on ESPN. They have Kenny Sattifield and Denver Nuggets Star Carmelo Anthony. Unfortunately Denver Nuggets guard JR Smith will not play due to injuries sustained in a recent car accident. After getting a verbal commitment from Suns guard Raja Bell I will be ready for Carmelo.
The streetball world waited, and got it after almost a year. Dime 2: The Election will soon prove itself to be one of the more dominant mixtapes to be on the scene. Edited by Todd Miller, aka “T-Mill†from Toronto, Canada, The Election has been broken down into about 12 parts. Each part features a member of the Dime crew and also the Dime open run. Let’s take a comprehensive look at each one of these parts...
No, LeBron James was not at Harlem’s Rucker Park last night. But a “LeBron is going to play†rumor was certainly all over the place on the Entertainers’ Basketball Classic opening night.
Thing is, as juicy as some of the rumors are, once play begins a LeBron-less existence barely matters at EBC. The nightcap, in particular, was simply a never-ending wealth of recognition and talent - even in the crowd. Wasn't that Nate Robinson ducking his way through the opening night crowd? Pharrell Williams on the sidelines? Then look on the court. Hey, isn’t that the Junk Yard Dog? And, right next to him, Homicide -- and the White Chocolate? And with all these guys on the same team -- Gino Green Global -- do the opponents stand any kind of a chance?Well, yeah -- if they have ex-Denver Nugget Kenny Satterfield. AND the deservedly legendary street ball–magician “The Maniacâ€. Even better, if neither of those guys is the best player on the team.
It’s not even close, in fact.
The best player on Team Rocstar was some baby-faced sub-six foot kid -- the formidable White Chocolate called him “the little miniature guy†as he was getting lit up at one point -- called “E-ZPassâ€. EP turned out to be Kemba Walker, a 5-11 Rice High school junior who just committed verbally to UConn...
Here's a little bit of footage from another Ball 4 Real tour stop, I'm not exactly sure what location this is. However, we do have word that King Handles is currently on tour, and is about 7 games in, going strong. Big ups to Joey for doing his thing.
Here are two more clips from the same tour stop. Not much in them, but one clip shows the crowd in one section getting buck wild. Looks like Ball 4 Real is off to a good start. Clip 1 Clip 2
Everybody should check this video out, not because of the amazing highlights/moves/dunks, but because it shows you what AND1 has turned into. Rather than brining AND1 back to the streets on the blacktop, AND1 has surrounded a local park with bleachers and advertisements galore. We thought AND1 was going back to the roots of the game - not true. See for youself. BT from Streetballin spotted this video on YouTube and I was in awe. AND1 is falling and we are witnessing the decline. Total attendance looks to me about 400, that's including all the people you can't see on the other side of the camera.
